Clinical Psychologist
The founder and CEO of Mind at heart Wellness Clinic, Concilia Tarisai Bere, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Global Mental Health researcher based in Harare, Zimbabwe. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Psychiatry and Mental Health and is a fellow of the African Mental Health Research Initiative and Science for Africa Foundation. She earned an MSc in Global Mental Health from King's College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Tarisai teaches at the University of Zimbabwe's Department of Mental Health within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her expertise includes behavioral sciences, integrating mental health into HIV care, and providing psychological support to patients. With extensive clinical and research experience, she has become a ‘trainer of trainers’ for adapted psychological interventions in low-income settings. She has played a key role in training community health workers and implementing Zimbabwe's Friendship Bench Project. As a prominent global mental health researcher, she has led the adaptation of numerous psychological treatments and contributed to developing numerous major manuals in Zimbabwe, including The Friendship Bench, Tendai (for depression and ART non-adherence in HIV-positive adults), The Bright Future (trauma-informed CBT for HIV adolescents living with HIV), African Youth in Mind (problem-solving therapy and behavioral activation for youth with depression and anxiety), Tendai Mothers (a self-help guide for perinatal mothers with depression), and Tendai4PrEp (psychological intervention for PrEP initiation during pregnancy). She also contributed to the WHO guide on implementing psychological interventions.
